T-shirts to raise money for a worthy cause that is!
You may have heard that Elon Musk‘s The Boring Company raised money for its tunneling operation by selling merchandise. It sold 50,000 hats for $20 apiece in 2017. And Tesla is now selling surfboards for the same reason. Inspired, we too promote language diversity through a small range of funky merchandise.
At Baba Bata, the saying, ‘education is the key to life‘, ‘elimu ni ufunguo wa maisha,’ is a truth we hold dear because being able to read and write – in our own language first – has opened many doors in life. Growing up in Tanzania, this truth was repeated to us often, at all levels of society, and how thankful we are for this!
We believe learning should be fun – especially when it’s Swahili (because it is such a fun language!) That’s why we seek to create resources for the little ones to enjoy.
But publishing is costly – especially books in a language other than English. This is a challenge to us, but a challenge that is worth overcoming, and so, like Elon Musk, we have created a side-project designing t-shirts to fund our books.
Other t-shirt products we have designed include:
- Australia – the best place on earth – t-shirts and pillowcases
- I Love Ugali t-shirts (what is Ugali? Find out here)
- A t-shirt for your favourite teacher
